Babies First Dell Power Edge R420 Server
Today my server arrived!
Why did I get a server? Why not? I saved up for a few months and thought, why not invest in myself. These skills should be vital for every developer; if you don’t understand the hardware and how to work it, how can you optimize your applications through this server? I have been planning on learning scalability DevOps and continuous development to learn how the cloud works from the inside and develop my skills as a developer and an overall engineer.
Where did I get it? On eBay, of course! Even ordering the server, I learned so much, That an 11-year-old baseline server could be more powerful than a modern-day desktop.
What do I plan on doing with it? The pipeline for the server is this is Set up Xen hypervisor then Upload Centos to it. Setup Terraform to control overall energy usage. Set up docker after that then Kubernetes and cluster the server with my desktop. Setup Ci/CD with all my projects (through GitLab) and Design a web app to create Docker containers and manage them. Have the web app be able to generate configuration files.
What is there needed to be done to start working on the server? Currently, I am anxiously awaiting a VGA to HDMI cable, so I can load the hypervisor on it and see what I’m doing.
What are the server specs, and where can I get the server? The server has 16 cores clocked at 2.5 GHz! That’s insane for the price I bought it at; it’s a steal! It also has 32 gigs of DDR3 ram!
Although it says 2.4 GHz, it is actually 2.5, according to my research.
